So as not to forget, we preserve remnants of the past. But what if the past was a horror beyond imagining? The photographs in this series were taken in places where the human capacity for inflicting suffering is put on display, as in a shop window, for all to see. These are the memorials to the victims of human cruelty from Chile to Cambodia; awkward attempts by diverse societies to institutionalize and come to terms with the conflictive and contradictory legacies of Memory.

Although it was exhibited in 2009 at Galería h2o in Barcelona, the project is ongoing. Many sites in many countries, including the United States, remain to be photographed.
